Unveiling the Stop-Motion Magic – Quek Shio's Journey into Raw and Creative Filmmaking

Quek Shio is known for telling deeply personal stories through his films. His award-winning short film, “Guang,” explores autism through the lens of two brothers, with the main character having ASD. In an interview, Quek expressed that telling stories from the heart, primarily inspired by his brother’s unique experiences with autism, is what drives his compelling narratives.

Before his successful filmmaking career, Quek was a broadcasting student, realizing his passion for storytelling while filming a documentary about fishermen’s daily lives. His second short film, “Sunflowers,” delves into the delicate subject of death, inspired by the passing of his grandfather. Quek sees his films as life lessons, aiming to give voices to the unseen aspects of life.

During the lockdown, Quek embraced creativity, undertaking projects like a stop-motion video of indoor cycling, bringing joy to his audience with his unique creative style. That’s how we came across him.
